July Landscaping Tips!
Our July landscaping tips are brought to you by the Arizona Landscape Contractors’ Association, Janet Waibel, and the Sustainable Landscape Management program.
Tree and shrub pruning is best done on a schedule that suits the particular plant. Very little pruning should be done in the hottest month of the year such as July and August. Plants are already stressed in the heat and don’t need the extra stress of being pruned. Palms and native desert trees are the exception to this rule.
Plants that can be pruned in July and August include:
- Palms
- Acacia
- Ironwood
- Mesquite
- Palo Verde
Plan accordingly to wait and prune these plants in the Fall months (September, October and November).
- Yucca stalks
- Hesperaloe stalks
- Mexican Bird of Paradise
- Red Bird of Paradise
